7/9/13 Stage 22 Huallanca to Tingo Chico
We knew this would be an easy day and didn't set of until 10am . The scenery was once again breathtaking and the riding couldn't have been easier as we continued to descend through the valley with hardly any need to pedal for the first 30 kms .We stopped for brunch in La Union and met a Belgian couple who were cycling from Ushuaia to Quito , they had already done it twice previously and were just varying the route .He was ill with bronchitis and they were waiting for a bus to take them and their bikes to Huaraz . They frequently used buses and said it was fairly normal to take a bike either in the bus or on top and the costs were minimal. We have a day coming up soon which will consist of 8 -10 hrs of just climbing and we may look into the bus option.The intention had been to camp between Pachas and Tingo Chico as there were no Hotel options but on arrival in Tingo Chico we asked the first person we met whether there was a hotel or not and she pointed upstairs . A bed is a bed I suppose but this place took the prize so far for squalor , the wooden planked floor moved under foot and you could see through the gaps between the planks into the kitchen below. The toilet was around the back down a little gangway and you had to bend down all the way if you didn't want your head cut on the roof panels . Needless to say no light To be on the safe side we will be sleeping in our sleeping bags tonight.
Wandering trough the village we were befriended by a group of young school children who practised their English on us and vice versa we practised our Spanish on them. They walked us to and showed us their school and were keen to have their pictures taken.
